Job Title: Instructor/Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano |
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Instructor/Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano to begin Fall 2027 (title will be determined by achieved degree of selected candidate). The successful candidate will be an excellent pianist and musician who enjoys collaborating with students and faculty.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- 75%: Play piano on campus for studio lessons, recital rehearsals and performances, choral rehearsals and performances, and opera productions
- 10%: Travel with students and faculty to regional festivals/competitions for performances and with the Chorale on their annual Fall Choir Tour
- 15%: Teach keyboard techniques courses, applied piano lessons, and accompanying skills as necessary; organize weekly student recital programs
- Be adept at playing various genres and styles of music
- Excellent sight-reading skills
- Efficient rehearsal technique
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: A master’s or terminal degree in music is preferred, but a bachelor’s prepared candidate with sufficient skill and experience will be considered.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The collaborative pianist must be able to rehearse for extended periods of time. Negotiating stairs and walking quickly between studios may be required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong time management skills
- Strong communication skills
- Enthusiasm for working with college students at a variety of skill levels
OTHER INFORMATION AND ATTRIBUTES: This position will require some work in evenings, on weekends, and/or travel.
